On the ‘X’ handle named NCIB Headquarters it is written, Did you know that,
If you book a waiting ticket from IRCTC website and it is not confirmed, then the Railways itself cancels that ticket and a large part of the amount paid by you is deducted as service charge. (For example, if you book a waiting ticket for Rs 240, the Railways refunds only Rs 180 if the ticket is not confirmed.) This means that you have to pay the service charge without getting the benefit of any service. Now you can call it loot of Railways or cooperation of citizens in national development, but Railways is earning thousands of crores every year from it. According to information received from an RTI, in the year 2022-23, Indian Railways earned approximately Rs 2110 crore in the name of ticket cancellation.
Along with this post, an image has also been shared, which contains details of the amount received from ticket cancellation.
This post is going viral in social media. More than 36 thousand people have watched it on X so far. Most of the people commenting on the post did not seem to agree with this. A user named Gems of Bihar wrote, if you charge for ticket cancellation then take it, there is no problem, but at least improve the railways. There is so much dirt in the coach and on top of that there are ticketless passengers. Another user Nisha wrote, Railways collects a lot of money from passengers in the name of service charge.
