WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will let users add, re-order, and remove contacts in a specific order. The Favorites feature was seen in the new beta version of WhatsApp for Android. It is expected to allow users to set speed dial to contacts for easy access. This feature is currently not visible so beta testers will not be able to use it, but it is expected to be available in an upcoming update.

New feature information WhatsApp Feature Tracker WABetaInfo It was shared by Google, which claimed that the instant messaging platform is working on integrating a Favorites tab inside the Settings menu. This feature was seen in WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.7.18 update. Despite being present within the app’s code, it is not visible and users participating in the beta program will not be able to see it. The report emphasizes that this feature could not be explored at present due to similar restrictions.

Based on the screenshot shared by the publication, the new setting option was located between the Account and Privacy options. A new option of Favorites is now visible with add, re-order and remove details. On opening the settings, a new screen states that searching for those people and groups on WhatsApp has been made possible. Although not much has been said about this feature, it looks like users will be able to add their favorite contacts to create a speed-dial like interface where they can send messages to those people instantly.

However, this feature depends on the wishes of the user, so it may be unnecessary for many users. Based on the screenshots, the feature is hidden under two different screens (Home screen > Settings > Favorites), which would make it difficult to use. The current interface of the instant messaging app automatically highlights chats where messages were recently shared.

Apart from this, users also have the option to pin the chat on top for easy access. The existing mechanisms and features are designed to maintain both favorite contacts and most frequently interacted contacts. This may also be necessary for users who want to keep a separate list of contacts that they do not reach out to frequently but have easy access to for certain cases. If WhatsApp rolls out this feature then more information can be revealed on it.
