Twitter suffers Big Jolt After Launch of New Rival Threads, Threatens to Take Legal Step Against Meta

Microblogging site Twitter has warned of taking legal action against Meta Platforms that launched its new rival Threads. Meta launched Threads on Wednesday to compete with Elon Musk’s Twitter. It has been launched as a separate app but users of Meta’s photo and video sharing service Instagram can log in to it using their details.

Semafor’s report quoted a letter sent by Twitter lawyer Alex Spiro to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg as saying, “Twitter intends to vigorously enforce its intellectual property rights and demands that Meta’s use of Twitter’s trade secrets or other confidential information should be stopped immediately.” Reuters’ requests for comment to Meta and Spiro were not responded to. Meta also has control of social media site Facebook.

Analysts say that threads Due to its association with Instagram, it can benefit from the already existing large number of users and advertising system. This may reduce Twitter’s advertising revenue. Some big companies had stopped advertising on Twitter after Musk took over Twitter late last year. Musk had said that the decrease in advertisements has had a big impact on Twitter’s revenue. Regarding this, the European Union (EU) had warned of imposing restrictions on Twitter. However, Musk later withdrew this decision.

Instagram has more than two billion monthly active users. This can make the threads easier. Within a few hours of its launch, more than four crore users have signed in to it. However, Threads does not have as many features as Twitter. Unlike Twitter, it does not have hashtag and keyword search functions. Apart from this, the facility of direct messaging has also not been provided.
