Truecaller Presents New AI Feature to block Spam Calls

Paid users of Truecaller can go to Settings > Block for the new feature to block spam calls. Earlier, in this setting, users could choose from two tabs – Basic and Off. In this, on basic mode, the app automatically blocks calls coming from those numbers which have been reported in large numbers as spam. In its off mode, spam callers are identified but those calls are not blocked.

This new feature will be called ‘Max’. Selecting this will block calls from all detected spam numbers. However, selecting this setting will also come with a warning that it may block calls from some legitimate businesses. Spam and telemarketing calls have increased in many countries including India. In a report by Truecaller, it was said that users in the country receive an average of 18 spam calls per month. The telecom regulator had also directed telecom companies like Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel to block telemarketing calls on their networks using artificial intelligence filters.

Truecaller opened its first exclusive office outside Sweden in Bengaluru. This office will be used to develop special features for the country. This company, headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden, started its business in India about a decade ago. The capacity of this office is about 250 workers. Modern technology and facilities are available in it. Truecaller has about 35 crore users and out of these about 25 crore users are from India. It says that there are opportunities to launch new products and services on its platform in the country.
