The names of 4 astronauts have been announced for the country’s first human space mission ‘Gaganyaan’. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced the four names who are undergoing training for the mission-‘Gaganyaan’. He said that Group Captain Prashant Balakrishnan Nair, Angad Pratap and Ajit Krishnan and Wing Commander Shubhanshu Shukla are the astronauts selected for the Gaganyaan mission. The PM had visited Vikram Sarabhai Space Center (VSSC) at Thumba near Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. He also inaugurated three space infrastructure projects of ISRO.

According to PTI report, the PM also gave ‘astronaut wings’ to the four astronauts selected for the Gaganyaan mission. He said that these are four such forces which encompass the aspirations of the 1.4 billion people of the country. He said that after 40 years an Indian is ready to go to space and this time the countdown, time and even the rocket is ours.

The Prime Minister said that he is proud and happy that most of the components used in the Gaganyaan human space flight mission are made in India. The Prime Minister also stressed the “important role” played by women in the country’s space programme. He said that women are an important part of space missions like Chandrayaan and Gaganyaan and without them it would not have been possible.

Modi also said that India’s success in the space sector is not only sowing the seeds of scientific temper in the country’s young generation, but significant developmental progress in various sectors will also help it emerge as a major global player in the 21st century.
