The sales of the country’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki have increased last month. The company has sold approximately 1.34 lakh units in November. In the same month last year, Maruti Suzuki’s sales were around 1.32 lakh units. For the company, cars like Baleno, Swift and WagonR have contributed significantly to the sales. However, Brezza, Grand Vitara and Fronx have helped it achieve growth in the SUV segment.

Sales of the company’s small cars like Alto and S-Presso declined to 9,959 units last month. It was 18,251 units in the same month last year. Sales of its hatchback segment declined to 64,679 units. It was 72,844 units in November last year. This segment includes Celerio, Dzire and Ignis. The company’s sales in both these segments have declined by about 20 percent.

Maruti Suzuki’s sales in SUV and MPV segments increased to 49,016 units. This segment includes Brezza, Fronx, Grand Vitara, Jimny, S-Cross, Ertiga, Invicto and XL6. The company has increased its focus on SUVs. Due to increase in demand in this segment, there was an increase of about 80 percent in the company’s profit in the last quarter. From the beginning of the new year, the company has decided to increase the prices of its cars. The prices of cars will increase from January next year. Maruti Suzuki has said that due to increasing cost pressure the prices of cars are being increased. The company had said that it has tried its best to bear the cost increase but it will have to pass on some of the burden to the customers.

The company has products ranging from small cars to SUVs. Their prices range between Rs 3.54 lakh to Rs 28.42 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The company has informed the stock exchange about increasing the prices of cars. However, it did not say by how much the prices would be increased. Maruti Suzuki says that the price increase will vary according to the models. In April this year, the company had increased the prices of all its vehicles. Earlier in January also, these prices had increased by about 1.1 percent.
