The success of India’s missions in space has increased rapidly in the last few years. In this series, Reusable Launch Vehicle (RLV) will be launched from Chalakere Runway in Karnataka on Friday (22 March). This will be called Pushpak. This is the country’s attempt to enter the reusable rocket segment.

This will be Pushpak’s third experimental flight. Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) Chairman, S Somanath said, “Pushpak launch vehicle will be the most economical way to reach space. The most expensive part of this reusable launch vehicle has been made reusable. This will bring it back to Earth safely. This upper part contains the electronics system and will later be able to bring the satellites from orbit for refueling. This is a step towards minimizing debris in space.

Its first experimental flight took place in 2016 from Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. It successfully landed on a virtual runway in the Bay of Bengal. After this it was sunk in the sea as per the plan. Its second test was conducted on April 2 last year at Chitradurga Aeronautical Test Range. Regarding its name, Somnath said that reference has been made to India’s mythological plane in Ramayana. It is considered to be the vehicle of the God of wealth. For this reason this name has been given to this rocket of the 21st century. He said, “Once it becomes a commercially available launcher, it can be a big source of revenue.” last year ISRO had proved its expertise across the world with the successful mission of Chandrayaan.

Sunil P, Program Director (Advanced Technology and Systems Group), ISRO’s Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, said, “Pushpak is the rocket of the future. ISRO aims to launch a vehicle that can reach space at a low cost.” India had planned to develop its own version of the Space Shuttle about 15 years ago. A few years later, a team of scientists and engineers started the work of making RLV. The weight of this 6.5 meter aircraft-like rocket is approximately 1.75 tonnes.
