IIT Madras Pavan Davuluri becomes new head of Microsoft Windows

Pawan Davuluri of IIT Madras has been made the new boss of Microsoft Windows and Surface. Before Davuluri, Panos Panay held this position. Panay left this post last year and joined Amazon. After that Microsoft separated Windows and Surface groups. Prior to this, Davuluri handled Surface Silicon and the Windows department was handled by Mikhail Parakhin. Now after Parakhin, Davuluri has taken the responsibility of both Windows and Surface.

Davuluri hails from India and graduated from IIT Madras. After post graduation from University of Maryland, joined Microsoft as Reliability Component Manager. Davuluri has been working at Microsoft for more than 23 years. Now with his new position, he has joined the ranks of Indians leading tech companies in the US along with others like Sundar Pichai and Satya Nadella. An internal letter from Microsoft’s head of experiences and devices, Rajesh Jha, announced Parakhin’s departure and Davuluri’s assumption of the new position. Davuluri will now report to Jha.

“As part of this transition, we are bringing together the Windows Experience and Windows + Devices teams as a core part of the Experiences + Devices (E+D) division,” he wrote. This will help us embrace a bigger vision for building silicon, systems, experiences, and devices that span Windows clients and the cloud for this AI era. Pawan Davuluri will lead this team and will continue to report to me. Shilpa Ranganathan and Jeff Johnson and their team will report to Pawan. The Windows team will continue to work closely with the Microsoft AI team on AI, silicon, and experiences.

Rajesh Jha informed the team about the changes within the Windows and Web Experiences (WWE) team following the establishment of the Microsoft AI organization. Transferring from WWE, Mikhail Parakhin will look into a new role under the supervision of Kevin Scott. The integration of Windows Experience and Windows + Devices into an Experience + Devices (E+D) division led by Pavan Davuluri will drive the growth of systems, experiences and devices for the AI ​​era. Shilpa Ranganathan and Jeff Johnson will report directly to Davuluri. The Windows team will work closely with Microsoft AI on AI, silicon, and experiences. The Web Experience team will now report to Mustafa within the Microsoft AI organization.
