Google Accuses CCI of Protecting Amazon by Ordering Changes to Its Business Model

Google appealed to the Supreme Court CCI Had requested to reject the order in which the company was asked to make 10 changes in its business model. CCI had found in its investigation that the company was misusing its dominant position in the Android operating system market. About 97 percent of smartphones in the country run on Android. The filing made by Google in the Supreme Court shows that the company has expressed strong objection to the manner of CCI’s investigation related to Android. In a petition filed in the tribunal late last year, Google had said that CCI officials had copied parts of the judgment given in Europe in a similar case against the company.

CCI had imposed a fine of about $ 161 million on Alphabet, the American company that runs Google, in October last year for misusing its dominant position in the Android market. CCI had also asked the company to change the way it markets its Android system. CCI had directed the company that it should not impose any conditions on app developers which are unfair or discriminatory.

Recently, Shark Tank India judge and businessman Anupam Mittal had termed Google’s billing system as “illegal” and termed it ‘Digital East India Company’. He had said that Google has violated the laws of the country. Along with this, Mittal had expressed hope that the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) will pay attention to this issue. Minister of State for Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar had said in an interview to Reuters that such cases are serious and the central government is worried about it. Action will be taken against Google.
