Air India, one of the largest airlines in the country, has ordered 470 aircraft. The number of people traveling by air has increased in the last few years. To meet this demand, airlines are also increasing the number of aircraft in their fleet. Air India is to receive one aircraft every six days for the next 18 months.

Air India CEO and MD, Campbell Wilson, told the assembly of the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines held in Singapore, “We have new aircraft. We are inducting a lot of aircraft. Along with this, a large number of crew and staff Appointments are also being made. There is a lot of work to do and we are making good progress.” He said that Air India passengers want reliability and on-time flights and the challenge is to meet these needs. Wilson said that new planes are being put on international flights. Apart from this, most of the grounded aircraft have been restored. Wilson also expressed confidence in facing competition from other airlines and increasing travel for Air India.

Tata Group-owned Air India has ordered 470 planes and will receive a new plane every six days over the next 18 months. Subash Menon, Director General of the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines, said that the current demand for air travel in the country is about 20 percent more than 2019 levels. The borders of Asia Pacific were opened after other countries and due to this the recovery of air travel in this region was at 69 percent till September. The recovery in air travel in Asia was delayed compared to other regions.

Because of this, many airlines in Asia could not use the slots to start services as per European Union (EU) rules. The loss of these slots has affected connectivity between the two regions. International air travel operates under the rules and conditions of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). Violating these terms and conditions impacts security and mobility between regions.
